Great Hikes

Franklin Mountains

North Mount Franklin - El Paso

The beautiful views within Franklin Mountains State Park make this an all-day hiking expedition. The Franklin Mountains originate in downtown El Paso and extend north. They're about three miles wide by three miles long, making this the second largest state park in Texas and the largest urban park in the nation.

While trekking some of the serious trails in this park, you'll see plenty of birds, reptiles, small mammals, mule deer, fox and an occasional cougar. Look up and you'll see Golden Eagles, a variety of hawks, falcons and, at night, a variety of bats and owls.
