Region: Prairies and Lakes
This town was first settled near the T&P Railroad in 1873 as Iola but
later was renamed for William Wills, whose log cabin served as a resting place
for travelers between Shreveport and Dallas and was referred to as "the Wills
point." Today, downtown features quaint 1890s buildings and original brick
streets. The city is a gateway to Lake Tawakoni and a center for ranching,
agriculture and recreation.
The Texas Legislature designated Wills Point the "Bluebird Capital of Texas."
The annual Bluebird Festival is in April.
