Region: Prairies and Lakes
Van is in central Van Zandt County at the intersection of I-20 and Texas 110.
In 1894, Henry Vance established a post office here, and the name Van was chosen
when the post office was named for Vannie Tunnell and postmaster Vance. On Oct.
14, 1929, oil was discovered here. Van became a boom town with about 30
structures, including hotels, built within 10 days. It still remains an oil
town, but the economy has diversified with other industries and
agriculture.
