The community was founded in 1878 by A.J. Potts as a railroad town. The area
was the Texas starting point for the historic Shawnee-Preston Trail, a major
cattle trail that later became the Preston Road, a primary road from Native
American Territory (present day Oklahoma) to Dallas. Today, Pottsboro offers
small-town ambiance with services and facilities for Lake Texoma
visitors.
