Region: Panhandle Plains
This typical agricultural community on the table-flat South Plains of the
Texas Panhandle (U.S. 87 south of Lubbock) was established in 1908 as a stop on
the Panhandle & Santa Fe Railroad, and named for a railroad official.
Hometown of the late Dan Blocker, "Hoss Cartwright" of classic TV western
"Bonanza." Star is remembered with a statue in downtown park across from
museum.
