Region: Panhandle Plains
As with many towns on the prairies, it was founded as a station when the
Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad was built through Shackelford County in
1882. It was first named Hulltown after Swope Hull, its first merchant, and then
was renamed to Hicks in 1891. The town's current name honors John J. Moran,
president of the railroad in 1892. Town is a trade center for farmers and
ranchers.
