Town was established in the 1840s and was chartered in 1873 near an artesian
well used by traders. The Northern and Pacific Railroad in 1873 and MKT in 1881
made Mineola a vital link in the area's commerce. Today, Mineola is receptive to
progressive innovation yet mindful of preserving its historic and natural
resources. It is a National Main Street City and the Birding Capital of East

Historic Mineola offers unique antique, gift, craft, book and clothing
stores, art studios and galleries, and much more. Downtown offers a variety of
fine restaurants along with the Select Theater and Lake Country Playhouse, the
oldest continuously operating movie house in the state. It offers first-run

outstanding bed-and-breakfast inns. A unique downtown feature is the restored
1906 Depot, which houses the Railroad Museum and serves as a daily Amtrak Texas

Annual festivals include Main Street Wine Fest, Gypsy Market, Mays Days,
MLOTA's Art Festival and Quilt Show, Ironhorse and Holiday of
