Region: Prairies and Lakes
This area was once part of a 3,500-acre plot of land purchased in 1843 by
Solomon L. Leonard. Years after his death, his surviving heirs entered into an
agreement to establish a town and railroad in 1880. Surrounding the city are two
historic thickets: Wildcat Thicket to the south and Bois D'arc Thicket to the
north. Annual events include a summer picnic and bluegrass
festival.
