Region: Panhandle Plains
Founded in 1888 along the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway, the city became
a shipping point for cotton and wheat. Oil later helped boost population
numbers.
Recreation is available at the city's three lakes. Gordon Lake has a lighted
walking track around the entire lake and has good fishing. Lake Iowa Park is for
fishing, boating and other watercraft. Lake Buffalo is known for its excellent
fishing.
The city recently added a water/spray park.
