Goldthwaite

Region: Hill Country

Established in 1885, this town is the seat of Mills County. Trade center for agricultural products including wool, mohair, fruits, cattle, turkeys and pecans. White-tailed deer are popular with hunters each fall and winter season; fishing excellent in nearby Colorado River and Pecan Bayou all year.

Goldthwaite lies on U.S. 183, a segment of the Ports-to-Plains Highway connecting the state's heartland to coastal ports. The Regency Suspension Bridge is one of the few swinging bridges in use in the state. The bridge spans the Colorado River, dividing Mills County from San Saba County. Approximately 20 miles west off F.M. 574.
