Region: Hill Country
Established in 1885, this town is the seat of Mills County. Trade center for
agricultural products including wool, mohair, fruits, cattle, turkeys and
pecans. White-tailed deer are popular with hunters each fall and winter season;
fishing excellent in nearby Colorado River and Pecan Bayou all year.
Goldthwaite lies on U.S. 183, a segment of the Ports-to-Plains Highway
connecting the state's heartland to coastal ports. The Regency Suspension Bridge
is one of the few swinging bridges in use in the state. The bridge spans the
Colorado River, dividing Mills County from San Saba County. Approximately 20
miles west off F.M. 574.
