Region: Prairies and Lakes
An early settlement called Bird's Fort was established just south of the
present city in 1841. A post office, Estill's Station, was founded there in
1857. But the community dissipated as settlers moved toward present-day Euless
and Irving, and the post office closed in 1868. Elisha Adam Euless, a pioneer
from Tennessee, built a home and cotton gin nearby in 1881. The settlement that
grew around his gin was named for him.
Today, the city is a thriving community on the boundary of DFW International
Airport. Many national and regional businesses call the city home.
Euless is known for its Arbor Daze Festival, held the last weekend each
April, which promotes and celebrates the planting of trees throughout the city
by giving away 10,000 trees each year. www.arbordaze.org.
