First known as Duncan Switch, the city was established when the Chicago,
Texas and Mexican Central Railroad Co. wanted to build a railroad from Dallas to
Cleburne in 1881. The name changed to Duncanville in 1882 when a post office was
established. Today, visitors to this Southwest Dallas County city can find
hiking and biking trails in area, as well as antique shops, arts and crafts, and
boutiques in the downtown area.
