Founded in 1874 in the rich farming area between North and South Sulphur
rivers, Cooper is a commercial center and the seat of Delta County.
Just south of the square is the historic McKinney home, with elegant
furnishings from a gracious era. It's open by appointment only. Check with the
chamber of commerce to arrange a visit. The Delta County Library, 300 W. Dallas
Ave., features an outstanding genealogy department. Miller Drug features an
old-fashioned soda fountain that has been in operation since 1925.
Annual events include Delta County Fair and Barbecue Cook-off in June and the
Delta County Chiggerfest and 5K Run/Walk in October.
