Clifton

Region: Prairies and Lakes

Settled about 1852 on the Bosque River, Clifton is the largest town in the county, a marketing center for surrounding agricultural efforts and a gateway to Lake Whitney. The city park offers picnic facilities, playground equipment and RV sites. Fishing is available on the Bosque River and Lake Whitney. The Texas Legislature designated the community the "Norwegian Capital of Texas" in 1997, and Scandinavian traditions are still observed by descendants of Norse settlers. Clifton is a Texas Main Street City. Three malls feature more than 100 antique dealers in the downtown area.
