Settlers from Carrollton, Ill., and at least one from Carrollton, Md., built
a camp in 1844 near the present site of today's Farmers Branch Elementary
School, but hostilities forced a move north to the present site. The community
was established in 1872 as a stop on the MK&T Railroad. Today, Carrollton is
a vibrant community that has been named a national "Kid-Friendly City" and "Tree
City USA." It also boasts 15 miles of walking and biking trails.
Historic Downtown Carrollton, with a gazebo in town square, is home to
antique and craft shops, restaurants and the Plaza Arts
Center.
