The seat of Milam County, this city was established in 1846 on the Little
River. It was named for Ewen Cameron, a Scot highlander prominent in the Texas
Revolution. Downtown has been revitalized with the renovation of the Milam
County Courthouse and an 1891 Victorian-style building that now serves as
Cameron City Hall and Municipal Center.
Cameron lies at the crossroads of U.S. 77 and Texas 36, a segment of the
Ports-to-Plains Highway connecting the state's heartland to coastal ports. The
city also is in the heart of the El Camino Real de los Tejas National Trail,
which was created by law in October 2004.

Annual events include Cameron Dewberry Festival and Barbecue Cook-off in
April, the Arts and Crafts Fair in October and Lighted Christmas Parade in
December.
