Established in 1891, the town was named for springs prized as water source by
wagon trains and Native Americans. In highest area of rugged, scenic Edwards
Plateau. Climate is cool and dry in summer, mild and sunny in winter. Area is a
popular year-round vacation spot offering camping, picnicking, hiking and rock
collecting.
