Region: Piney Woods
This is a trade center for the prosperous lumber and agricultural district of
the fertile Trinity River Valley; seat of Polk County. It was established in
1846 and named by founder Moses L. Choate for his former home in Alabama. Oil
was discovered here in the 1940s.
