Region: Piney Woods

Seat of Jasper County, established in the late 1800s and named for Sgt. William Jasper, a hero of the American Revolution. Area terrain—85 percent forested by pines and hardwoods—ranges from hilly to level.

Jasper's historic town square features the courthouse built in 1889, three bed-and-breakfasts, art galleries, outdoor art sculptures, antique shops, murals, and the old county jail where county archives are housed. Sandy Creek Park, downtown, features children's playground equipment, fishing ponds, walking trail, picnic areas, basketball courts and a pavilion over the water.

Events include the Jasper Air Show and Rod Run Car Show in March, Dam to Dam Bike Ride in April, Juneteenth Celebration in June, Festival of Trees in November–December and Christmas Parade in December. It is home to one of the nation's largest fishing tournaments—The Big Bass Splash.

Nearby Cities: Newton, Woodville, Zavalla, Hemphill, Kirbyville, Nacogdoches, more...
