Region: Gulf Coast
Established in 1894 in southern Wharton County, its earliest settlers were
Danish immigrants who relocated from the Midwest to Texas to extend and promote
Danish culture in the U.S. Historical records were kept by these early settlers
and continued by following generations, and they are now housed in the Danevang
Museum. Danevang was declared "The Danish Capital of Texas" by the Texas
Legislature in 1990. Danevang, translated from Danish, means "Danish
Fields."
