Boerne, (pronounced BER-nee) was founded in 1849 by a group of German settlers who aspired to create their own version of Thomas Moore’s Utopia.

Named after Ludwig Boerne, the little town, once known as Tusculum, was situated on the Cibolo Creek, and quickly became a tourist destination because of its pure air and surpassing beauty. Boerne is the home to some of the oldest historical sites in the area, and it is rich with German heritage. The annual Berges Fest in June and The Boerne Village Band’s summer Abendkonzerte series are proof. Stroll down Hauptstrasse (Main Street) and experience a feast of shops—antiques, gifts, home accessories, boutiques, jewelry, books and collectibles. Take a break at a cafe, coffee shop, bakery or wine bar, or try the local brewery. Boerne boasts a vibrant arts community with dozens of galleries, arts and music events, and a community theater.

Accommodations in the Boerne area are among the Hill Country’s finest. Destination resorts, conference centers, bed & breakfasts, inns and hotels are nestled in the rolling landscape. Visitors escape the hustle and bustle of the big cities as vacationers did here a century ago.

Year-round festive cultural events fill the air with music and merriment. Berges Fest, the Kendall County Fair, Weihnachts Fest, Dickens on Main, Boerne Market Days, Key To the Hills Antique Show, Fourth of July Fireworks show, the Key to the Hills Rod Run, Boerne Triathlon, and three parades are but a few of the festivals and events that draw people from near and far.

For a unique and memorable Hill Country experience, plan a weekend get away, a wonderful day of shopping, or just come by and have lunch and relax in the warm and gracious hospitality of Boerne—a true Texas “Star.” The perfect setting for relaxation of the body and restoration of the soul.
