Texarkana

Texarkana is commercially and culturally one city, but two separate municipalities—one in Texas, one in Arkansas. The photo island on State Line Avenue in front of the post office is a popular spot—tourists can stand with one foot in Texas and the other in Arkansas. Built on the Arkansas-Texas line, the Justice Center is the only one of it's kind in the nation. It houses the courts and jails for two states, counties and cities.

The city is home of Texarkana College and Texas A&M University–Texarkana.

A Scott Joplin mural, at Third and Main streets downtown, colorfully depicts the life and accomplishments of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical pioneer from Texarkana. In the first two decades of 20th century, Joplin was America's "King of Ragtime." His works have been rediscovered. Best known as composer of "Maple Leaf Rag," his music was used as the theme in the movie, The Sting.
