It is the center of a huge, shallow underground water belt, so the city and county have an abundant water supply. Recreational facilities include an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, swimming pools and city parks. Hunters find abundant pheasant during that season. Excellent antique shopping is available in the historic downtown area. It is the home of Wayland Baptist University
