The town in Hill County was named for Richard B. Hubbard, a former governor of Texas. During the early 1900s, the city was noted for its hot mineral wells and bath houses. People came from all over Texas in search of relief from rheumatism and other ailments. The wells are still here, along with five city lakes built after discovering the mineral water.
