This event marks the 200th anniversary of the First Republic of Texas, 1813, also known as the Green Flag Republic or Magee-Gutierrez Expedition. The multicultural legacy of the people who fought to create republic is celebrated in a wide array of dance, music, food and stories with African, Hispanic, Native American and European origins. A ceremony featuring 13 flags and cities is held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday in Flag Park, and the main festival goes from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday in Heritage Place Park.
