Founded in 1854 as a trade center at the intersection of two main roads. Now, it is situated between two major highways (I-20 and I-30) and is known as the Art Capital of East Texas. First known as Crossroads, name was changed to honor an early settler, John E. Wynn. The spelling was supposedly changed by a newspaper editor in the 1870s because of a shortage of the letter "y" in his type. This scenic area is popular with photographers. Nearby lakes offer recreation.
One of Texas' best known salutes to fall foliage is Winnsboro's Autumn Trails, held every weekend in October. Other events include Hog Rally and Cruise-In in October. Call 903/342-0684 or 903/342-7788.
