The town is the seat of Throckmorton County, named "The Capital of the Cow Country" by the Texas Legislature. Farming, ranching and oil production are the main industries. It is the hometown of Dallas Cowboys' legend Bob Lilly. The area is a popular destination for anglers and hunters, and hunting leases are available. An RV park with full hook-ups, is located south of town. A city park, swimming pool and a municipal nine-hole golf course are available. Annual festivals include the Wild Game and Brisket Dinner in January, Ranch Rodeo and BBQ in May and Cow Country Christmas in December.
