Named for its location in the Texas Panhandle, the town became the county seat upon the organization of Carson County in 1888. Wheat, cattle and petroleum products are among the commodities from this marketing and shipping center. Hunting opportunities are abundant. Annual events include the old-fashioned July 4 celebration. Scenic tours include drives past working cotton, corn and wheat farms, wind turbine engines and rolling grasslands. Restored Santa Fe depot serves as city hall.
