Established in 1939 and named by an oil company. It was incorporated in 1940 during the height of the oil boom. Today, the city is a center for industry and agriculture in Yoakum County. Favorable weather conditions contribute to the growing of cotton, sorghum, peanuts, wheat and other grains. Beef cattle also are an important part of the economy.
