Established in 1881, this community developed as a distribution center for a large cattle and agricultural area. Economy grew with the discovery of the Ranger oil pool in 1917.
Big Country Dinner Theater, sponsored by Cisco Junior College, presents productions every weekend in July. Call 254/442-5000.
Annual events include a Folklife Festival in April. City also features brick-paved streets and antique shops. There are several sites around the city for excellent fossil hunting.
