Rolling plains and prairies characterize the topography of this East Texas town, which is the seat of Leon County.
The historic 1887 courthouse on town square was fully restored in 2007. Four jails are still standing in this town: three on the courthouse square (built in 1887, 1913 and 1974) and the current one built in 1994 on Texas 7.
