The town was established in 1910 as the fulfillment of a young insurance agent's dream. F.Z. Bishop envisioned a model town, surrounded by farm tracts. He made a deal for 2,300 acres. By the end of 1912, the town had grown to 1,200 residents, and Bishop had sold more than 40,000 acres.
