Now on modern I-10 in far West Texas, town grew at juncture of the nation's second transcontinental rail route in 1881 (Southern Pacific and Texas & Pacific). Historical marker commemorates the event downtown at corner of Sierra Blanca Ave. and U.S. 80. Town named for Sierra Blanca Mountain (6,950 ft.) just northwest.
