Nestled in the tip of South Texas near the center of the lower Rio Grande Valley, flanked by Mexico to its southwest and the Gulf of Mexico just 25 miles to its east.
A picturesque 400-foot wide resaca waterway meanders through this culturally rich historic community. This subtropical destination features native wildlife species such as exotic birds, butterflies and Neotropical plants. The Rio Grande Valley is one of the top birding hot spots in the nation, and thousands of naturalists converge here annually in search of some of the 484 species that have been sighted locally.
This is the home of conjunto (accordion-style, Latin-based) music and features a rich musical heritage with legends like Narciso Martinez (the father of conjunto music) and Freddy Fender.
San Benito is just minutes from the Free Trade International Bridge at Los Indios, one of the most modern ports of entry of South Texas and provides a quick route to the Mexican border cities of Matamoros, Reynosa and Valle Hermoso, as well as the interior city of Monterrey.
