Village in Grimes County founded about 1885 on the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railroad; thrived as agricultural center and wagon-making site in late 1800s. Each fall the community, about 45 miles north of Houston on Texas 105 and F.M. 1774, is a major gateway to the Texas Renaissance Festival.
