Named by Caddo Indians for free flowing mineral springs. In early 1900s, town attracted resort visitors to red mineral springs nearby. Today, commercial center for manufacturing and poultry industries.

More than 17,000 acres of boating, fishing, camping, parks and skiing found on lakes Bob Sandlin, Monticello and Welsh, all famed for producing outstanding crappie, catfish and state record catches of largemouth bass. Dellwood Park, off Texas 49 E., is a 25-acre wooded area where mineral springs resort once stood.

While driving along I-30 east, travelers might notice Larry Lawrence Antique Cars and Parts. Housed in a building that resembles an antique gas station or automobile dealership.
