Established 1881, community developed as marketing and distribution center for large cattle and agricultural area. Economy stimulated by discovery of Ranger oil pool in 1917. Continues as center for oil and gas production, diversified agriculture and manufacturing.
Big Country Dinner Theater, sponsored by Cisco Junior College, presents theater productions every weekend in July. Call 254/442-5000 after June 1 for ticket information.
Annual events include Folklife Festival in April. City also features brick-paved streets, antique shops and more. There are also several sites around the city for excellent fossil hunting.
