Established in 1910 as the fulfillment of a young insurance agent's dream. F.Z. Bishop envisioned a model town, surrounded by farm tracts, and he made a deal for 2,300 acres, bisected by the rails of the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railroad. By the end of 1912, the town had grown to 1,200 residents and Bishop had sold more than 40,000 acres. Today, agriculture remains a mainstay of the local economy.
