The preserve consists of 105,000 acres in 15 units spread across seven counties. Several major biological zones combine here, creating unusual combinations of ecosystems and biodiversity. Open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. every day, except Thanksgiving, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Visitor center is at 6102 F.M. 420 , about seven miles north of Kountze. 409/951-6700.
